Pussy Riot has designed the festival poster

We can proudly announce that the poster for 2014 years festival is made by Pussy Riot. The next festival will also highlight Russian film. The poster was revealed on Friday at the Göteborg Book Fair where the film festival also staged a large manifestation in honor of Pussy Riot and took a stance for democracy and freedom of expression.

- The Göteborg International Film Festival has chosen Pussy Riot as the poster artist with the intent to aim the spotlight at Russian film, but also to take a clear stance on the working conditions for filmmakers. This is a decisive issue for the future of the entire global society, that freedom of expression and human rights are always respected, everywhere, for everyone, says the festival’s Artistic Director Marit Kapla.

Pussy Riot about the poster:
- We made this artwork on New Year's Eve, December 31, 2012. We decided to make graffiti a symbol of feminism on the streets of Moscow, because Russia needs a feminist movement.

With its focus on Russia, the 2014 Göteborg International Film Festival will offer a program containing new short films and feature films with some of the most interesting Russian directors. This will be supplemented with a selection of documentary film including several interesting perspectives on Russian society. During the film festival, Russian film, the country’s cultural climate and its societal development will even be brought up at a number of seminars with Russian filmmakers and other guests.

Aside from the main theme of contemporary Russian film, the film festival’s program will, as usual, contain films from the entire world, with Nordic films at the core along with other limelighted domains. The program will be presented in its entirety at the beginning of January.
