Things you don't see every day

As the leading film festival in the Nordic countries, Göteborg Film Festival brings films from all over the world to Göteborg. The main goal is to be the springboard that sends new Nordic film out into the world.

The festival began in 1979 and has since drawn in thousands of moviegoers to Göteborg each year. In 2016 the festival had around 130,000 visits who were offered 450 films (1031 screenings) from 84 countries.

But the festival is not just about film. Around 40 seminars as well as music, art, Nordic Film Market and many other activities surrounding the core of films attracted 21 128 visitors during the 39th festival. The festival’s industry section, with Nordic Film Market on the vanguard, also grew last year and is an important meeting place for industry visitors from all over the world.

Our programming group works year round to choose quality films from across the globe. As a visitor to the film festival in Göteborg, you’ll get to see films that never reach the large cinemas.
