Mads Brügger explores the borderland between fact and fiction as he travels to The Central African Republic in order to highlight the trading of diplomatic credentials in Africa. He buys a diplomatic passport and off he goes, bribing and tricking his way. He claims, among other things, to want to start a matchstick factory and employ the local inhabitants, but is in fact after the country’s diamonds. The story swiftly turns into a tragicomical tale featuring Brügger’s alter ego greasing his way around, sporting a fancy suit, riding boots, a cigarette holder and a safari hat. The bulk of the film, which was picked to open Amsterdam’s documentary festival IDFA, was shot with a concealed camera.
