Welcome to the leading film festival in Scandinavia and – with an audience of 200 000 visitors a year –  one of the largest festivals in the world. In addition to the intense eleven day long festival we provide you with screenings, premieres, parties and seminars all year around.

Thanks for this year!

The 35th festival is over. 429 films (750 screenings) from 80 countries and 35 seminars attracted an audience of over 33 000 visitors. Another fantastic festival is summarized, both regarding content and sales.

- We can look back at eleven days full of artistic and public success. People’s interest in us seems only to increase from year to year. We have also had a record number of industry visitors, which demonstrates how important the film festival in Göteborg is as a venue for this category of visitor, says Mikael Fellenius, CEO of Göteborg International Film Festival.

Ticket sales fell slightly compared with last year's record, as was expected because the total number of seats this year was lower due to the festival not having access to the venues Pustervik and Folkteatern. The total amount of tickets sold this year is 128,097 (2011: 130,620)

By contrast, occupancy of this year's film festival landed just over 63 percent compared to about 60 percent last year.

- These numbers are the proof that the audience likes to go to the cinema and wants a rich and varied selection from around the world. It is great that two quite challenging feature films won the audience prize: Andreas Dresen's Stopped on Track, a film about handling a difficult disease and Esther Martin Bergsmark's She Male Snails, about finding one's identity outside of society's gender norms, says Marit Kapla, artistic director of the Göteborg International Film Festival.

We have collected a lot of footage, interviews and other clips in our Videograph.
