On Friday night the 33rd Göteborg International Film Festival opened with a ceremony in the Draken cinema with a speech by honorary president Roy Andersson.

Thereafter the directors of the opening films were presented: Jonas Odell with his short film Tussilago which competes at the Berlinale and Mikel Cee Karlsson and Fredrik Egerstrand with their documentary The Extraordinary Ordinary Life of José González. The two films are in competition for the Synch Leader and The Nordic Film Award.
The opening screening was followed by a reception in the Festival Tent where star chef Leif Mannerström was in charge of the buffet dinner.
