Dance Music Now - best short film

Dance Music Now by Johan Jonason was awarded the short film prize Startsladden at Göteborg International Film Festival. The prize is worth almost SEK 1,000,000 (€ 117,000), making it one of the world's largest short film prizes.

With the statement "a film which portrays a creative tug of war between two male egos through humor and complexity" Johan Jonason’s Dance Music Now was awarded the Startsladden award by the jury.

The plot of Dance Music Now, which was also screened before the festival opening film Avalon, revolves around a neurotic singer who fails to deliver. He vents his frustration on those nearest at hand, capsizing an entire studio session.

The award is worth close to 1,000,000 SEK, consisting of cash, technical support and equipment – from rough cut to final cut. Startsladden is a collaborative award from technical companies in the trade association Resource Companies for Film & TV in Sweden, The Swedish Film Institute, Swedish Television, Film i Väst, Folkets Bio, Filmregion Stockholm – Mälardalen, Filmpool Nord, Film i Skåne, SF and the Swedish Union for Theatre, Artists and Media.

The festival audience voted for Sascha Fülscher’s animated Next Door Letters as the best short.
