Röda Sten: People And The City

People and the city is the name of the programme hosted by the Röda Sten art gallery, a satellite of Göteborg International Film Festival 2012. The programme consists of a number of documentaries focusing on intricate relationship between people and how they in turn interact with the city. Through the camera lens, we  are sometimes afforded an insight into the reality of the artistic process as we follow artists in their work. Other times we feel the pulse of a living city, witnessing it's constantly changing appearance. We also witness deeply touching stories about intimate and problematic father-daughter relationships, about friendship and unfulfilled potential.

People and the city got off to a head start back in December, when GIFF and Swedish Television pre-screened the documentary about the Nordstan shopping centre. Naturally, the screening took place in Nordstan. Roy Andersson, Folke Edwards and Claes Hake are some of the well-known Göteborgians whose influence on the city's cultural life has been considerable. Perhaps that would have been true for Nils Olof Bonnier as well, if he hadn't mysteriously disappeared in the late 1960s.

The films will be screened continuously from January 28 until February 5, between 12 Noon and 6 PM in the large exhibition hall at Röda Sten. There will be a short break between films.

Opening party!
On Saturday, January 28 at 6 PM, the opening party for the exhibition starts in the Röda Sten restaurant and bar. There will be music from Cicely Irvine and Wefring and Lars Carlsson will man the DJ booth.

Initiator in focus
Along with the film screenings, we will show posters from exhibitions produced during Folke Edwards's stints at  Lund Konsthall, Kulturhuset in Stockholm and Gothenburg Museum of Art. Edwards is one of the initiators behind the Röda Sten cultural association.
