Sign language meets spoken word/slam poetry. Of course, the Deaf people have a mode of storytelling, even though it’s not recorded. Meeting these youths, who create and perform their own version of slam poetry with great intensity and an amazing feel for rhythm, is an incredible experience. It is almost reminiscent of a dance show in its three-dimensional form. Or film, with close-ups, wide shots, cuts and fades. Here, both hand signs and the entire body are used. We meet Aneta, a deaf teen who immigrated from Israel, and Tahani, a hearing Palestinian girl. Together, they create a narrative and perform it; a way of portraying the complexity of a large conflict with small means.
