TV Drama Vision at Nordic Film Market is where the TV industry gets together during a full day and exchanges knowledge and ideas for the future.

Beyond Nordic Crime

John Yorke, former controller of Drama Production and New Talent at BBC, Caroline Benjo, producer at Haut et Court, Johanna Koljonen, journalist and broadcaster and the team behind the Norwegian success Dag are headlining TV Drama Vision at the Göteborg International Film Festival, January 31, 2013.

For the 8th time we are delighted to present our international TV drama seminar where the TV industry gets together and exchanges knowledge and ideas for the future. This year we focus on the latest trends in Scandinavian TV, both in content and viewership as well as on what makes a successful drama series. We will also present the TV support in the film agreements of Sweden, Denmark and Norway as well as works in progress of Crimes of Passion (TV4, Sweden) and Eyewitness (NRK, Norway). Welcome to TV Drama Vision 2013!

John Yorke

What makes a successful drama series

What do the top 25 UK and American drama series of all time have in common? What are the key elements that underpin every successful drama series ever made? Our keynote speaker John Yorke, newly appointed Managing Director of Company Pictures (Wild At Heart, Skins), will share his twenty years of experience which includes commissioning of such shows as Life on Mars as BBC Vision’s controller of Drama Production and New Talent, as well as his roles as Head of Drama for Channel 4, where he commissioned Shameless, and founder and manager of the Writers Academy, developing new writing talent for both the BBC and the wider UK television drama industry. Join him in a whistle stop guide to the ingredients every returning series must have.

Presented in collaboration with The Erich Pommer Institute and Media Desk Sweden.

Rebound – the dead bring life into French TV drama

Renown French independent film production and distribution company Haut et Court are pioneers at bringing the feel of indie films to TV in France. Caroline Benjo, producer at Haut et Court TV, gives us an insight into the making of the fantasy drama Rebound (Les Revenants), the company's first series for CanalPlus. Inspired by Robin Campillo's film They Came Back, Rebound is set in a lakeside village in which long-dead locals mysteriously come back to life with no memory of what happened to them. Broadcaster SVT is in the middle of broadcasting the first season of the series (Swedish title Gengångare).

Presented in collaboration with SVT.

New trends in Scandinavian TV culture
Following up on last year´s theme of how Nordic TV drama travels, we dive into the current trends in content and viewership in Scandinavia. Johanna Koljonen, journalist and broadcaster, takes a look at the parallel trends of the individualisation of the viewing process and the re-socialisation of the viewing experience as well as makes a follow-up on what happened to the trans media project The Spiral (presented at last year's seminar). We will also discuss trends in viewership in the light of the explosion of on-demand services in the Nordic countries as well as present three exciting projects in the making: Exodus by Tommy Ipsen, Azaya by Jonas Gudmundhs and Jordskott (The Tales of Silverhöjd) by Henrik Björn. Participating amongst others are Åsa Sjöberg, Head of Drama, TV4, Jakob Bjur, research fellow at the department of Journalism, Media and Communication at Gothenburg University and Håkan Lindhé, CEO, Pocket Entertainment.

The story behind Dag

The Norwegian comedy series Dag has gathered a hardcore fan base throughout Scandinavia in only a couple of seasons. With the remake rights sold to Fox Television Studios, the popular series is now set to start its third season. In an exclusive case study, the producer Anders Tangen, script writer/director Öystein Karlsen and cinematographer Pål Bugge Haagenrud will tell us all about how they found the unique tone and style of Dag.

Presented in collaboration with SVT.

The TV support of the Scandinavian film institutes
In the brand new Swedish Film Agreement, TV dramas are for the first time eligible for support from The Swedish Film Institute. Suzanne Glansborg, film commissioner at the Swedish Film Institute, tells us the facts of the new agreement, while the heads of development and production at the Danish Film Institute and the Norwegian Film Institute, Claus Ladegaard and Ivar Køhn, give us an overview of how the TV drama support system works and has worked in their respective countries.
